shhhhh

If I sit veeeery still, maybe no one will notice that I’m not supposed to be on the dresser….. or my dirty paws and elbow and shoulder and….

Both cats got a bath last night - for Emmaline, who has a special affection for dusty sooty places, it was her third in a month. For Minou, it was his first and possibly his last. He was petrified of getting wet and even more of getting blown dry. Once the ordeal was over, however, they were their happy mischievous selves again - and temporarily barred from the rooms with fireplaces. I’d like to enjoy two clean cats for five minutes together, okay?

This is Minou pre-bath (see those sooty paws?) - believe me, with a strong struggling cat, there were no photos to commemorate the event!

  1. Just had to come over after your comment on my Whittier post about how my mom and us girls spent many an hour in Maxines. My mom and sisters sewed all their clothes growing up. We lived in Pico Rivera and Montebello. We also spent time in Penn Park. My niece volunteers at the library. Small world isn’t it?

  2. Wonderfully small in many ways, Ellen :-) How sad I was when Maxine’s burned down and that dear lady who worked there forever (I used to think she owned the store) had to work at the (much less charming) Fabric King.

  3. You are brave. I’ve never had much luck bathing my cats. Only one of them didn’t mind “too” much. The others would try to kill me whenever I’d attempt a bath, which meant every few years, they’d go to a salon and get drugged.

  4. look at those cuties!! I’m not a “cat” person per say but those are 2 good looking felines!

  5. The Bliss team is not keen on getting a wash either so I have some idea of your difficulties in getting your kittycats clean again. I’ve bought a special blowdryer that hardly makes any sound at all and that helps with getting a kitty dry as they don’t panic because of the absense of that horrible noise.

  6. Cats, and indeed dogs, either seem to love having a bath or absolutely hate it! I’ve known both and still have the scars to prove it for the latter.
I love both the photos Nikki, and see that Minou’s tail is swishing again. xx

  7. Doesn’t he remind you of Hobbes in that pose, Flighty? I think it’s that long torso of his.
    .
What a good idea, Yolanda! My previous cat had gotten deaf and didn’t mind the blow dryer at all.
    .
Mylozmom, that’s sweet of you :-)
    .
Mary, is that what they do at the fluff-o-mat? Give ‘em a little sedative?

  8. You bathed them? Poor kitties. I didn’t think they got baths.

  9. Lisa, the Turkish Van breed (which Emmaline is one) is supposed to like water (swimming in lakes and such). I’ve certainly found that they are much more tolerant of the occasional bath. Unfortunately, the fireplace soot they get into is hard to get off despite lots of licking on their part.

  10. That composition at the top is perfect. The curve of Em’s back, the light at the top edge, the box, the mantle clock, the picture frames, and most of all how the green and white of the flowers match the wall and window ledge. Such serenity and peace…*sigh*…

  11. Your feline photographs are so soft and romantic. Have you ever thought about submitting them for magazines? Love the perspective!

  12. Liv, I was walking by and saw what Em was up to, tiptoed away to grab the camera. The light in that room is terrific and the the greens play it up.

    Thanks, WORC :-)

  13. haha! he is so not even looking out of the window! What a little tyke he is! :o)
I think you may have your hands full with these two… fun times to come I think. Keep the camera handy!!!
    xx

  14. i love these photos.
their bodypostures look like they feel safe & happy.

  15. That first shot is wonderful. It should be in a magazine! I just love your kitty pix!!

Soot and white paws…not a good combination!

  16. Cats vs. water. Sometimes the cats win.

Whenever I had to bathe our Angel, I waited until my son in law The Marine came to visit! He could handle her!

  17. What beautiful photographs, Anne! Your cats are mischievous, aren’t they? I loved the white flowers in the vase.

  18. Minou is so sweet. x

  19. Oh how cute. Emmaline does look like a statue on the dresser. Yes, Minou looks a little worse for wear in his photo. Eloise is the only cat who gets a bath. She’s had them since a kitten, so tolerates them.
