green dinner

Dinners around here are sometimes thematic (Mexican or Italian or…), sometimes based on what’s in the fridge, and sometimes based on color :-)

That’s kohlrabi on the left, artichokes at the back, and broccoli rabe on the right.

Cooking kohlrabi was no problem. I used my mom’s method of cutting them into thick matchsticks and stirfrying in garlic and oyster sauce. They’ll take a while to cook, but their tender sweetness is worth it.

With the broccoli rabe, however, I wasn’t as sure. I bought it because it looked so fresh and I knew somebody must have a worthwhile recipe. I simplified one that I found online that boiled them in salted water and then sautéed them in lemon-zest-infused butter. (the recipe also had a bunch of other ingredients, but I opted to do just the easy part)

Though I didn’t make green rice or find green fish……..

That’s catfish fillets pan-fried with onion salt and Old Bay seasoning. For an appetizer, I made another batch of olive oil mayonnaise to go with our steamed artichokes.

  1. Would you notice if a family of 6 suddenly started showing up around dinner time, hanging about in the garden, playing with the cats?

  2. Forget food when there are Paris pictures (more coming, right?) and roses! Anne, those roses, I just want to bury my nose in them. It gives me hope that spring will be here one day soon. I might have to make one of those my backdrop! I’m so glad you’re back safe and sound from your trip.

    lovins!

  3. Natalie, I would love nothing better than if six people showed up to distract the cats. They’re BORED, they tell me.

Yes, yes, yes, Fiwa, Paris photos coming - I have been trying to catch up at work and haven’t had but a few hours to sort the photos. They start going up Sunday :-) Glad you’re back too - must see what pics you’ve taken!

  4. Your photography is amazing. I’m allergic to both soy and fish, but this post has me drooling.
