1.  Finishing the Minou picture book (last week) for my aunt’s family was just part of their gift.  I’d asked the Fabulously Talented Glo if she might come up with a poem I could tuck inside (the printed book arrived this week).  She totally blew me away with this (just an excerpt — I’ll post the whole thing next time):

And so at last, enough’s enough.
I’ve got my leash and packed my stuff,
but don’t be sad, I’m not going far;
just six miles down the road by car.

There’s Aunt and Uncle, and just me.
We’ll live together happily.
Perhaps I’ll curl up in their room…
Plumeria and roses bloom ~
I’ve seen them line the garden path.
I’m hoping they don’t have a bath!

2.  The huge smile on my elderly neighbor’s face when she opened her door and found me with a big bowl of cookies in hand.  “We look forward to them every year,” she said, referring to her grandkids, several of whom live with her.  And then a little wistfully, “You know, I don’t bake anymore.”

3.  Feeling caught up.  With a big sigh of relief, I got a couple of big projects at work done (including learning how Lightroom fit into my work flow — love the “clarity” and “sharpening” tools).  And with Bake Day done, cookies delivered and shipped, gifts for family arriving in the mail, even a few gifts wrapped — I’m feeling a lot better than last week.

4.  “Go ahead and deposit those checks,” said the administrator at my office.  Two mysterious checks arrived a couple of weeks ago from an old 401k account.  I couldn’t make any sense of the accompanying letter and called the admin.  She said there had been errors to correct over the past several years and the checks settled the accounts.  Perfect.  Just in time to help out with some medical bills :-)

5.  The things you find yourself typing in a search field… this combination made me smile.  I’ve been looking up the ooma (VoIP) to free myself from monthly phone bills (i.e., going from landline phone service to internet-based service) and was trying to figure out if it would work with my current setup with AT&T U-verse internet provider.  So I searched on these two terms and was surprised there were 35,400 results!

6.  Notification of half (work) days on the days before the upcoming holidays.  Yipee!

7.  Some favorite readings from the week:  Noel Piper on telling the truth about Santa to her kids.  Jon Bloom about the detours in life — unplanned for us, but not for God.  Sara shows off some beautiful scenes from her visit to Salt Lake City. Tracie writes about The Gift.  Oanh writing about a gift from a child.  And this is what I’m planning to make for Christmas morning breakfast.

Samantha savors every bit of Christmas, especially the ornaments.

Don’t forget to visit Susanne to read other Friday’s Five Faves or to participate yourself!  Natalie’s daughter Maria has been singing a Christmas song she made up last Christmas that seems quite fitting for the close of this post:

“All the way to Christmas day
we go, we go, we go!”

LOVE your wreath, Anne! It’s looking very Christmas-y there! And look at Sammy—showing an ornament a little love… sweet… LOL! Just stopping by for a little visits… On Sunday hubby & I are leaving for our trip to share Christmas with my family… so scrambling to get all sorts done–LOL! I have a couple of pre-posts ready to go out while we’re away, but online time will be limited. So look forward to catching up with you after Christmas. Wishing you & yours the Happiest Holiday and JOY in the New Year :o )

I really look forward to these fff’s of yours as they’re always such a nice way to end the week! This one is no exception, and I look forward to seeing the rest of Minou’s verse.
    Have a good weekend! xx

Well what nice surprises …some extra money and some half days of work! That would make me smile for sure :0)
How sweet that you remember your neighbor like that.
What a great shot of Samantha trying to nibble that ornament…

Hooray for less stress and extra checks! The wreath in the first picture is so beautiful, and further down the post, Sammy appears to be getting rid of some competition. :-) Fave #2 made me watery-eyed.

What a lovely wreath! And you might enjoy the tale of this quite literal detour…just one humanitarian story of many by our troops.

Come on up and help me wrap gifts – I love your style!

And I’m sure Ruby and Samantha could have fun eating ornaments together :)

Happy weekend Anne! I’m going to check out your recipe.

We really are on the final days leading up to the big one. Its just fun and food from this point forward ;)

How wonderful of you to take cookies to your neighbor, I’m sure that meant a lot to her.

We had to move all the ornaments off the bottom branches, nothing could convince Lugo to leave them alone. And he has to carefully examine each present placed under the tree as well, so cute!

I’m honoured to be included in your fff’s :) It was my pleasure to write a little poem about Minou ~ and I’m pleased you enjoyed it. The picture book of Minou is something I’m sure your aunt and uncle will treasure. Your wreath is elegant and a perfect display for above the mantelpiece. It sounds like you are well on our way to a beautiful Christmas :) Thanks for sharing many of your preparations with us … so inspiring and uplifting.

As if on cue… Maria woke up and I hear her in her room singing… All the way to Christmas day we go, we go, we go. I love these posts. #2 made me smile… I can sense her gratitude. All of it, the poem, the accomplishments, it’s sweet, seasonal gratitude.

What a great week! The book looks good from what I can say and yes, cute poem! I love the photo of the kitty biting the ornament! Rah for extra, unexpected $$! :)

Thank you, thank you for posting the “Unplanned detours” link. I so needed that exactly at this moment.

Sounds like you’ve got some nice time off before the holidays. Enjoy every minute!

No FFF on Christmas Day but we’ll be back next week to kick off New Years.

    Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you, Anne – everything sounds good out your way and looks beautiful! The little kitty ornament reminds me – I was thinking of you when I hung the similar one on my own tree that you sent last year. (I am sending prayers for your Mother). (Glad you liked my post :)
